Hi, I’m Dave Bernier, Scoutmaster for Troop 1147.
How did I get this job? What makes me qualified to be Scoutmaster?
Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I
started my Scouting career in the mid 1960’s (yes the 1960’s). I am a
Life Scout with 22 merit badges. I was involved with Scouting off and
on for several years until I came back to Scouting full time when my son
joined Cub Scouts.
In the last 8 years, I have held or continue to
hold the following Scouting positions:
·
Tiger Den leader
·
District Recruit Night Chairman
·
Assistant Cubmaster
·
Cubmaster (5 Years)
·
Unit Commissioner for three Cub Scout units in the
Reynoldsburg & Pickerington area (Pack 51, Pack 68, and Pack 279)
·
Assistant Scoutmaster (2 years)
·
Scoutmaster
I am a trained leader:
·
Wood Badge (C-07-04)
·
Blackfoot (Blackfoot 29, 2007)
·
Blackfoot Staff (2008 to present)
·
Leader knots that include: Youth Religious, Tiger Den
Leader, Cubmaster, Scouter, Training, and Commissioner Key
I have been involved in training adult leaders at
the Simon Kenton Council University of Scouting since 2004.
Did I draw the short straw for the position of
Scoutmaster? No actually, I volunteered. I volunteered to run a
program for the boys. A program that will keep them involved. A
program that will serve as Memory Makers.
In the last two years, Troop 1147 has doubled in
size and continues to grow. What brings young men to the troop? I
firmly believe that it is the program offered by the troop. The fact
that it is a boy run, boy lead troop.
Although you may already know me, please feel free
to take a few minutes to introduce yourself and share your thoughts with
me.
Mr. Bernier
